About the firm

A private practice built to look at the whole decision — not one column of it.

Financial Concepts, Inc. is an independent San Rafael firm led by Joe Murphy. Over more than thirty years, Joe has organized his practice around the way real financial decisions actually behave: tax, property, mortgage, and retirement questions arriving together and needing one perspective across them.

Joe Murphy

More than three decades of interconnected financial work.

Joe holds a Master of Science in Financial Services (MSFS), the CFP® certification, and Enrolled Agent status with the Internal Revenue Service. He maintains active California real estate and mortgage licensure and has spent his career in the San Francisco Bay Area helping individuals, families, professionals, executives, property owners, and small-business owners think through decisions that rarely arrive in isolation.

His method is straightforward. Understand the decision. Map how it touches tax, property, financing, and retirement. Say clearly what Financial Concepts can do and where an outside professional belongs. Then move — organized, on record, and with the follow-through most clients say has been the single biggest difference in their experience.

Joe is not a Certified Public Accountant. His tax practice is conducted under his Enrolled Agent authorization, a federal credential granting unlimited practice rights before the IRS.

Why the firm is organized this way

Four disciplines, one perspective across them.

Bringing these disciplines into one practice doesn't mean bundling them into one promise. It means the same person sees the connections early — and coordinates outside professionals when the situation calls for it.

Tax return
Everything that has already happened, mapped onto the return correctly.
Real estate
Timing, basis, exchange considerations, and how a sale or purchase changes the next filing.
Mortgage
Financing structure, cash-flow implications, and how they interact with the tax picture.
Retirement
Distributions, income sequencing, and long-range tax exposure across accounts.

The practice

A deliberately small firm, oriented around direct client work.

Financial Concepts is intentionally small so Joe stays close to each client's situation. Depending on the engagement, additional licensed professionals — including independent real estate agents, mortgage originators, and affiliated financial advisors — may be brought in under their own scopes and agreements. Any team member profile shown on the firm's other web properties is verified before being represented here.

If you have worked with the firm previously and would like your engagement lead confirmed, contact the office directly.

A note on scope

What one professional can do — and what belongs to a separate engagement.

Tax preparation and planning are delivered directly by Joe as an Enrolled Agent. Real estate brokerage services are provided under California and Arizona real estate licensure. Mortgage brokerage is performed under separately licensed mortgage engagements. Investment advisory and securities activities, where applicable, are conducted through separately affiliated firms under distinct client agreements.

Every engagement is governed by its own agreement. Nothing on this website is personalized tax, legal, or investment advice.
